GOOD DAY TO YOU, I AM GLURINGEN
As most names ending in -ingen, my name goes back to Alemannic invasions in the Alps. My name is Gluringen and this has not changed since my first mention in 1203. In vernacular, my inhabitants are also called “Städter”, city dwellers. It is said that this was due to their self-confident, aloof behaviour. However, this has not prevented my dwellers from joining the neighbouring village of Reckingen. Compared to other villages in Goms, my houses are spread out over quite a large area, which makes it hard to locate the centre of the village. The Swiss Army has been part of our village life for many years but the troops have left the valleys gradually. I am proud to host the production of one of the best organic cheeses in Switzerland. Be sure to taste it!
