Far away from civilization and traffic, the Blaswald Trail finds its way across pastures and through mountain forest to the former ski lift mountain station and summery Alp Senntumhitte.

If you want to hike with snowshoes up to the beautiful Blaswald above Ulrichen, start your tour at the former Sust "Zum Loch" at the foot of Nufenen- and Griespass. Passing the small chapel St. Anna zum Loch, the path climbs steeply after the first flat section along the cross-country ski trail. The path zigzags through the snowy mountain forest. The first few metres of altitude difference are quickly covered and offer an impressive view of the mountain village of Ulrichen and the young Rhone Valley.

After the first pre-alps you meet the signpost which marks the descent to Obergesteln. But it is still too early for that. Following the markings, the trail continues to climb up to the landmark wooden cross on Blasenalp. From here you can already see the goal of the tour, the Senntumhitte.

Historical remark: A small ski lift once led across the Blasenalp foothills. At the Senntumhütte you can still see the remains of the pole of the mountain station.

Author’s recommendation

If you don't like to walk the same way there and back, you can choose the ascent or descent from/to Obergesteln.

The use of the snow shoeing trails is at your own risk. Obergoms Tourismus AG disclaims all liability and assumes no responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of the information on this website.

Local conditions may entail changes to routes.Take a map with you or download the complete description of the route with a large-scale map. Use only signposted paths and observe all markings and signs - for your own safety, for the protection of the landscape and in respect for wildlife. Be considerate of other users. Take your rubbish and that of others with you.

Weather conditions in the mountains can change very quickly and without warning. Adequate clothing and provisions (food and drink) are very important. If the weather is unstable, it is better to turn around early. Carry additional sun protection with you. UV rays at high altitudes can be very strong, especially in winter, even when the sky is overcast.

Plan your tour carefully and in detail. Inform yourself in advance about the current conditions (avalanche danger, cross-country ski runs, winter hiking trails, snow trails and road conditions) and weather conditions. The winter sports report provides you with valuable information from the region.
