Snowshoeing in Switzerland - naturally in Goms, the mountain village
The night cross-country ski run between Ulrichen and Obergesteln offers an ideal opportunity for physical training on skis even in the evening after sunset. The circuit is illuminated daily between 5.30 pm and 9.30 pm between mid-December and mid-March.
As an ideal complement to the numerous kilometres of pistes available during the day, the 4.5 km long illuminated cross-country ski run offers a perfect opportunity to extend the day on the cross-country skiing trails of the valley. The use of the night trail is included in the cross-country pass of the Loipe Goms.
The ideal entrance to the night trail is at the Hotel Walser in Ulrichen. From there the illuminated trail leads along the young Rhone to Obergesteln up to the loop at the Source du Rhone Golf Restaurant. The trail then runs along the wooded slope towards Ulrichen, past the chapel St. Anna zum Loch and from there parallel to the Äegina mountain stream back to the starting point.
Safety informationThe use of the trails is at your own risk. Obergoms Tourismus AG and Loipe Goms disclaim all liability and assume no responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of the information on this website.
Use only marked trails and follow all markings and signs - for your own safety, for the protection of the landscape and in respect of wildlife.
Be considerate towards other cross-country skiers. Every cross-country skier, especially on downhill runs, must adapt speed and behaviour to his ability and visibility. In classic running tracks and on the piste for free running technique, you run on the right side of the piste with an appropriate safety distance to the front runner. If you stop, you step out of the cross-country ski run. Assistance in case of accidents is a matter of course. To alert the rescue service, dial No. 144.
Weather conditions in the mountains can change very quickly and without warning. Appropriate clothing is very important.
The winter sports report keeps you informed about the current conditions (avalanche danger, cross-country skiing, winter hiking trails, snow trails and road conditions).

Author’s map recommendations
- Good cross-country skiing material
- Weatherproof (waterproof and windproof) warm clothing and headgear
- Good sun protection, even in cloudy weather. UV rays at high altitudes can be very strong, especially in winter.
The wind can carry me for kilometres and kilometres. Sometimes I pile up into huge mounts. I get all effusive if you jump in me. I give way when you ride through me. I blur your vision. I get the smallest crevices. If you get a taste, you cannot get enough of me. Try and describe me and words will fail you. I turn forests into fairylands. If you glide across me, I will swallow all your sounds. Slide over me and I will give you joy. Tour skis love me. Give me a visit. I am your powder snow.
