What used to be omnipresent in Goms, exists only in Obergesteln today, at least in this distinct form. People used to cultivate small fields on the slopes north of the church. Today, more than 200 fields exist and about a dozen locals still cultivate them manually like they used to in earlier periods. This varied farmland seamed by hedgerows is not only a treasured tradition. It is a natural habitat for local plants and wildlife. You can learn about the arable farmland by consulting the information boards.
