Active relaxation – naturally in Obergoms

The unique alpine landscape at the foot of the Grimsel, Furka and Nufenen passes makes this high, sunlit valley in the Canton of Valais a very special holiday destination. In winter and summer alike, Obergoms is a peaceful oasis for relaxed holidays with plenty of sport on offer.

For winter visitors, the focus is on the Goms region’s 100 kilometres of cross-country ski runs, winter hiking trails and ski slopes served by family-friendly ski lifts.

Goms – home of cross-country skiing
There’s a long tradition of cross-country skiing in the Goms region, where the season lasts from November to early April. Around 100 km of cross-country runs of different degrees of difficulty guarantee some great skiing. The ski runs link 12 picturesque villages from Niederwald to Oberwald, practically all of which boast stations on the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway as well as direct access to the ski run, making them very popular with skiers and hikers alike.

Active relaxation
Only a stone’s throw from each chocolate-box village, a whole world of adventure opens up. Snow shoe walkers leave their footprints in the snow-covered woods as they follow the signposts to the many snow shoe trails and enjoy the stillness of the unspoilt forest. Skiers and snowboarders can head for the nearby ski resorts of Andermatt and Aletsch Arena. Family-friendly ski lifts at Gluringen, Münster-Geschinen and Oberwald are ideally placed, making life easier for young children and beginners. Winter hiking trails abound in the sunny Goms region, with views across the sweeping contours of the high valley. The trails are lined with ancient woodland, while footprints in the fresh snow provide clues to the nocturnal activities of wildlife in the winter landscape. Obergoms welcomes sledging enthusiasts with its long, steep, fast descents, open by day and by night. Snowmobiles stand ready to take sledgers and hikers up the mountain, and there’s après-ski fun to be had in cosy chalets and restaurants.
