Living history, tradition and culture
Church in Münster

We can't offer great opera houses or cosmopolitan theatre, but every summer some of the world's greatest classical musicians meet in the music village of Ernen. Visitors to Goms can admire the handiwork of the greatest organ builders in the shape of marvellous baroque organs. Valuable art treasures from the gothic and baroque periods give a special shine to the more than 70 churches and chapels of the region.

Every village has its own history. The ancient timber houses, which are typical of the Canton of Valais and are often still in daily use, are just one expression of the many traditions and customs that are still actively lived in this region. The numerous museums and the many cultural and historical trails provide an insight into the past, the architectural peculiarities and the historical milestones of Obergoms. Culturally, Goms also has plenty to offer with its more than 70 baroque churches, chapels and gothic high altars. All through the year the churches of the region host classical concerts, while numerous traditions – from arts and crafts to folk theatre – remain enormously popular.
